For Art History class

In groups, the class had to create a video or presentation about a specific art movement. My group and I decided we would do a fashion film based on cubism.

We wanted to explore the fragmentation of the image that was the premise of this movement. The video was made to be glitchy and fragmented in order to display this idea. The breaking of the mirror in the final seconds of the piece also makes this extremely obvious. The looks and the makeup were based on specific paintings by Picasso, as shown on the moodboards.

For the music, we overlapped two songs: Hedra by Grimes and Quagmire/In A State of Permanent Abyss by The Future Sound of London. The unison of the two made the video have a confusing yet pungent feel, further emphasising the sensations that surface from observing a cubist painting.

For the presentation, the video was sent via text to the class group with the instruction to turn the phones volumes to the maximum. As each person pressed play at a different time, the classroom was overpowered with the aggravated overlapping of the songs, creating a confusing and fragmented atmosphere, typical of the movement.

Most of the acrylic accessories were designed by us and laser cut.
